What’s happening here?

While browsing the gift shop at the Museum of Art & Design, I discovered this book. I often take on these lofty goals of completing sets of things, and never commit. For example, I just discovered my blog from when I first moved to NYC and got my first smartphone: I made a blog where I posted a photo every day, and tried to say something about it. I kept it up for quite some time, but definitely failed before I made it to the triple digits. While I may ultimately fail in my goal of blogging my visits to 111+ museums, I will in fact carry on in my attempts to explore the city one way or another.

What’s the plan then?

The plan is to visit at least 1 museum a week (excluding weeks when I’m out of town, or am crazy busy with my other various hobbies – which is mostly captured by my instagram story).

Why?

NYC is an expensive city. When I was a young lab tech living in the city I reasoned that people must have severe cognitive dissonance to keep them going (aka, we have to believe that it’s the best city in the world, or else everything we put up with to survive here really isn’t worth it). While I still sort of believe that living in NYC takes a toll, it does have a lot going for it, and I started all of this to remind myself that the rent and struggle is worth it, because every day we’re surrounded by culture and life. If I don’t make an effort to engage with it, then I’m not really living in NYC.
